My complicated feelings
I have been working at a Izakaya for one year and half. I like the job and company, but recently I always think about my part-time job, because there are people who don't work harder, and people who work harder. I think it's wrong. I had been putting up with it. And last month I couldn't put up with it, so I started my new part time job. And last night I went to my part time job's place, Izakaya for retired the job. (84)
My favorite magazine
I would like to talk about my favorite magazine. When I have my free time, I often read my favorite magazine. It is “GOSSIPS”. Do you know it?? The magazine is written about gossips of American stars. I can see American star’s pictures that were taken by paparazzi. One of the reason why I like it, I know the news for American dramas. I really like American dramas. In Japan, we can see gossips of them, and their life style on TV. But we can see from magazines. I really like American stars, like Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively and so on. On the other hand I am not interested in Japanese stars. Therefore, it is the only way to see their news. And I have been reading the magazine since I was interested in American stars. I often go to TSUTAYA, and I was reading it after school. When I went to America, I bought some American magazines. I really like magazines about american stars. (165)

Girls party
Last Friday, I went to down town with Iori and Saki after school. We went to there by bus, and then we took "print club". At 8 o'clock, we went to a place that is called Ninja Yashiki. The place is a restaurant like Ninja's home. The workers wear Ninja's clothes and use Ninja's language. It was funny!! We ate good meal and alcohol. After dinner, we went to my mother's bar. I wanted to meet my mother but my mother was not in there, so we went to my mother's restaurant. My mother manages a bar and a restaurant at downtown. But also my mother was not in the restaurant!! I asked to the worker, then she said that my mother went to the bar. So we went to the bar again!! I could see my mother with great difficulty! And we enjoyed talking and drinking. There is a karaoke in there, so Iori song a song! And my boyfriend picked us up, so we could back to home!! It was great time!!! (175)

The reason why I go into Eibei
I would like to talk about the reason why I go into eibei although I like Korea. I like Korea, but I like English more than Korean. Actually I like American music and dramas than Korean. We can go to Korea easily, so I just like to go to Korea. When I went to England for one month 5 years ago, my mind was changed. And when I was high school student, I had known Miley Cyrus and had watched American dramas. From then I had been into English. So I really like English!!! One of my dreams is to see Miley Cyrus!!haha I like her!! (107)

but also foreigner. Then I can know foreigner’s thinking. Therefore I would
like to raise my speaking skill. Actually, I don’t have classes or chances that
I can speak English in. If I see teachers or friends who are foreigner or I go
to English Lounge, I can speak English. It’s not too much. So I think that I
use the class to my chance that I speak English. And, I like activities that we

rewrite; Japanese and American views on adoption
This summer, I went to Minnesota as part of a
homestay program. My host sister was an adopted child from Korea . I
learned about adoption in my American classes. I was surprised to hear that
American people think positively about adoption, and adoptions are extremely popular
in America .
This paper compares American people’s views on adoption with Japanese people’s
views.
In
Japan ,
adoption is sometimes seen as a taboo. Japanese people treat it like it is
shameful. Some parents don’t tell their children that they were adopted. There
are many problems in Japan
when parents tell their child they are adopted.
The percentage of the Japanese
adoption system is as follows:
·
Husband Adoption has 67%.
·
Stepchild Adoption is 25%.
·
Child Relative Adoptios is 7%
·
Children with different biological parents are last with
just 1%.
There are many reasons why child
adoption in Japan
is so low. Firstly, many Japanese people
don’t know in depth details regarding the Japanese adoption system. In other
words, the lack of knowledge directly affects adoption numbers. A survery shows
that 21% of Japanese people don’t understand how the adoption system works.
Secondly, The Japanese government generally has a negative stance on adoption
and rarely has Public Relations Campaigns about the subject. Also, the number
of social worker and adoption organizations is predominantly smaller than in
Europe and America .
Thirdly, as mentioned before, because adoption is seen as a taboo in Japan it can
sometimes result in discrimination. From the survey, you can see that the
general Japanese person is hesitant to adopt due to how others may see them.
Finally, the utilization rate of in-vitro fertilization and infertility
treatment is much higher in America ,
but unfortunately, success rates are low. However, people in Japan who can’t
have children usually abandon the idea, and never think of adoption as an
alternative method. Some people think this is because of Japan ’s
tradition of seeing blood-relations as important.
Incidentally,
the adoption numbers in Japan
are gradually decreasing. In recent years, around 1000-1500 adoptions are
carried out every year. In Japan ,
90% of adoptive parents don’t have their own children, or suffer from
infertility treatment. On the other hand, the number of children who are born from
in-vitro fertilization is rising. Therefore, people
who can’t have children themselves will usually depend on in-vitro
fertilization instead of adoption.
I
investigated adoption in America
by getting my host family to answer a questionnaire. Overall, 9 people answered
the questionnaire.
All 9 agreed with the idea of
adoption. From this result, you can clearly see the difference between
Americans and Japanese. There are numerous reasons why they agreed with
adoption. For example, it’s a great alternative for families who cannot have
children on their own, it’s a great way for families to connect with children
and become their apart of their family, and it’s a wonderful way to create
families and to provide loving homes for children. One person who agreed with
the concept gives money to an adoption charity, which helps families pay for
adoption.
Furthermore,
Americans have several opinions on why adoption is a good thing. Many children
need homes, and adoption has a positive effect on both the parents and the
child. It is also a big business, with a lot of money involved, so it is
closely regulated by the government.
Also,
most people in America
know someone who has or is adopted. In Japan , it’s rare to know these
people. Some people have friends who have been adopted and relatives who have
been adopted.
With
regards to the question of whether adoption is good or bad, Americans also have
several opinions. The main opinions are based on how well a child is matched
with adoptive parents. A successful adoption is when adoptive parents adopt and
welcome a new child as part of the family. This creates new families and gives
the child a loving home. These are some opinions on why adoption is a good
thing. On the other hand, there are opinions for adoption being a bad thing.
Some aspects can be difficult for the child, who has to wait for a new family
and then become attached to someone who isn’t your biological parent – it can
be very lonely for them. It must also be very difficult for a mother to give up
her child for adoption; it’s unfortunate that not all children can stay with
the parents that gave birth to them. Therefore, 30% of people said adoption can
be a bad thing. However, the majority of people think that adoption is good,
and the people who said that adoption was bad also suggested parts of it were
good..
Out
of the 9 people who took the survey, one had adopted a child. However, she adopted
a step-child. Also, my host family has an adopted child. My host parents
started the adoption process when they were 42 years old in 2003, and their
adopted child arrived when they were 43 years old in 2005. The child is now
almost 8 years old and is a girl. My host parents are now 51 years old. They
got married when they were 39 years old. My host mother had a child from her
first marriage. They had always wanted to have at least two children and my
host father wanted to be a dad to a little baby. However, they were unable to
have biological children. Their adoptive child’s biological mother was a
19-year-old college student from Korea and the child’s biological
father left the mother to join the Korean Army. Because of this, their baby was
put up for adoption. My host parents have taught her that her biological mother
loved her so much and that she decided to let Mommy and Daddy raise her and she
would have a happier life. They love her very much, and they don’t think of her
as their “Adopted Daughter”, so they don’t have a problem with adoption. This
summer, my host parents are sent their adopted daughter to a Korean camp, so
that she doesn’t forget her Korean heritage. Many Korean Americans or adopted
children from Korea
took part in the camp, and they learned the Korean language, Korean songs,
dances, Tae Kwon Do etc. and on the last day, the parents came and watched
their children perform what they had learnt. Afterwards, they ate Korean food. It
is a great experience for adopted Korean children.
In
America ,
by virtue of the diffusion of the opinion that it is “environment rather than
heredity” and good quality milk powder, married couples who couldn’t have
children started to accept an adopted children from the 1920s. In 1980,
adoption was diversified because the adoption system increased due to the rise
of liberalism and multiculturalism. Nowadays, the family concept in America is diversified.
Japanese people have a fixed
idea that blood-relation is important, so adoption rates are decreasing. On the
other hand, American people think positively towards adoption and the American
government is actively promoting adoption. If the American views of adoption
were explained to the Japanese people then maybe they would understand the
importance of adoption. Also, if Japanese people thought more about the choices
they have available to them, including adoption, then they would make their own
lives a lot happier.(1293)

BR 2-25: Oxford
The oldest university in England and one of the most famous cities in the world. But Oxford is not only a city of students, and its history was not always quiet and thoughtful. And what is modern Oxford really like? This book looks at the history of Oxford - but it also looks at the living city of today, its river, and some places of interest nearby...
Oxford is a book in the Factfiles subseries of Oxford Bookworms. As you may know, Factfiles is a nonfiction subseries. Many of the books are about places, and some about social problems such as the environment. Many of the books about places are about countries, but this one is about America's most populous state. Like many of the books, Oxford has ten chapers: Oxford; Early days; Troubled times; Out of the past; Oxford cars; The modern city; Oxford by day; Special days; oxford by night and Around Oxford.
The language in general is fairly simple, but the impressions is that it's noticeably more challenging than Stage 1 books. Most of the vocabulary is fairly simple, but there are many proper nouns. This is unavoidable in a book introducing a place, but may give an impression of difficulty to some students. Picking page 8 at random, the numbers of words in each sentence are as follows: 22, 10, 34, 10, 16, 21, 7, 31, 11, 21, 8. These figures give a mean of 17.3. One noticeable difference from Stage 1 books is the absence of very short sentences of fewer than 10 words, which may slow down reading speed a little.
The chapter that appealed to me the most was Chapter 1: Oxford. (277)
3 days!!
It was three days holiday. First day, I went to my boyfriend's house. We ate pizza at lunch time, and we watched some TV programs that was recorded. And I went to my part-time job from evening. Actually, I had stomach during I was working, so it was hard. Second day, It was our memorable day. On our memorable day, we go out for dinner, or we go out side. But!!!!!!! This month, there was my birthday. Then we spent a lot of money, so we don't have much money. We can't go out dinner. So my boyfriend said to me "Let's make Nabe!!" I really like Nabe. I had not tried to eat soy milk nabe. I wanted to eat it. We went to a supermarket, bought some vegetables, meat and so on, and went back to my boyfriend's house. American and Japanese thinking about adoption
In this summer, I went to Minnesota
for home stay program. My host sister is an adopted child from Korea . And I
learned about adoption at class in America . Then I was surprised at
American people are affirmative to adoption and adoption are extremely intimate
in America .
This paper compares American people’s ideas for adoption and Japanese’s.
Although adoption, there are many kind of adoption system such as
adopted husband which is adopted into his wife's family, stepchild, adopted
child who is related by birth, and adopted child who have other parents. This
paper compares adopted child who have biologically parents.
In Japan , adoption is something that
people don’t talk about it. They treat it like it was shameful. Some parents
don’t tell their children that they were adopted. There are many problems when
parents should tell their children that they were adopted in Japan .
The breakdown of adoption system in Japan was as follows. Adopted
husband have the majority. It’s about 67%. And second, stepchild is 25%.
Thirdly, adopted child who is related by birth is 7%. The least is adopted
child who have other parents. It’s just 1%. There are many reasons for the
background of not taking root. First,
many Japanese people don’t know about the adoption system in detail. In other
words, it’s a lack of knowledge for adoption system. From a questionnaire
survey, there are Japanese people of 21% said that don’t know about the system
in detail. Second, Japanese administration is negative posture on adoption
system such as public relations are not frequent and the number of public
organization social workers are predominantly smaller than European and
America. Thirdly, as mentioned before, there are discrimination’s senses even
today. From the questionnaire survey, you can see there are many Japanese
people care about what other people think. Finally, it’s low that substitute of
true child and adopted child. For example, utilization rate of in‐vitro fertilization or infertility treatment
is higher than America, and success rate is low besides. And in most cases,
people who couldn’t have child abandon without thinking about adoption. From
these, some people think those adoptions do not become acclimatized to Japan
because of Japan
has tradition of regard blood relation as important.
Incidentally today, Japanese adoption numbers gradually decrease. In
recent years, around 1000-1500 adoption is carried out every year. And in Japan , 90% of
adoptive parents don’t have children, or suffer from infertility treatment. On
the other hand, the number of children who were born for in‐vitro fertilization is rising. Therefore
people who can’t have child by themselves will depend on in‐vitro fertilization instead of adoption even
the number of Japanese adoption is decrease.
I investigated about adoption for sending questionnaire to our host
families for knowing about American’s thinking about adoption. 9 people
answered it.
Everyone agrees to adoption. From this result, there is clearly the
difference between Japanese people’s thinking and American’s. There are many
reasons why agree to adoption. For example, it’s great alternative for families
that cannot have children on their own, it’s a great way for families to
connect with children and become their forever family, and wonderful way to
create families and to provide loving homes for children. A person agrees to
it, so give to a charity that helps families get enough money to pay for
adoption.
And in regards to a question what do they think about adoption in America ,
there are several opinion. Many children need homes, Adoption in America
can be very positive for the families who adopt and for the child who is
adopted, It’s a big business and there is a lot of money involved, so it must
be closely regulated by the government.
And everyone knows someone that has been adopted. In Japan , it’s
rare. Some people have friends who have been adopted and relations who have
been adopted.
In regards to a question what they think if adoption is sad or
happy, also there are several opinions. It depends on how
well the child and parents are matched, It is happy for the families who are
able to adopt children into their family and happy for the child who has a
family that wants them to be a part of their family, It is happy that it gives children
loving homes and creates families, It is happy if the children can find a happy
home to belong to. These are part of opinion for adoption is happy. On the
other hand, there are opinions for adoption is sad. Some aspects are
sad-difficultly attaching to someone who isn’t your biological family, waiting
for a family, and loneliness; It must be very difficult for mother to give up
her child for adoption; It is sad that not all children can stay with the parents
that gave birth to them. Therefore people of about 30% have opinion for
adoption is sad. However many people think that adoption is happy, and also the
people who have opinion that adoption is sad have opinion that it is happy.
There is a person who has adopted child in 9 people. However she has
stepchild. And my host family has an adopted child. He and his wife started the
adoption process when they were 42 years old in 2003, and their adopted child
arrived when they were 43 years old in 2005, the child is now almost 8-year-old
girl and they are 51 years old. They got married when they were 39 years old.
Then his wife has a son from her first marriage. They had always wanted to have
at least two children and he wanted to be a Daddy to a little baby. However
they were unable to have biological children. Her biological mother was a
19-year-old college student in Korea
and the child’s biological father left her to join the Korean Army. Therefore
their baby became adopted child. They have taught her that her biological
mother loved her so much that she decided to let Mommy and Daddy raise her and
she would have a happier life. They love her very much, and they don’t think of
her as their “Adopted Daughter”, so they don’t have a problem about adoption. And
there is a camp for Korean in this summer. They caused her to take part in the
Korean Camp for do not forget Korean cultures every summer. Many Korean American
or adopted children from Korea
took part in the camp, and they learned Korean language, Korean songs, dances, Tae
Kwon Do and so on. And the last day, their parents come to a place like gymnasium,
and see their children show various things like songs, Tae Kwon Do and so on.
After that, they eat Korean food. It is good things for Korean adopted
children.
In America ,
by virtue of the diffusion of the opinion that is “environment than heredity”
and good quality milk powder, married couple who can not have children started to
accept an adopted child from 1920. In 1980, adoption was diversified because of
adoption system is increase from rise of liberalism and multiculturalism, and also conservative
mode broke. Therefore today, the family conception in America is diversified. (1183)

BR 2-24: FOOD AND DRINK IN BRIN
Oxford Bookworms Factfiles is a sub-series in the Oxford Bookworms series. It is devoted to nonfiction, and most of the books are about countries or famous cities or environmental problems.
The book I read today is FOOD AND DRINK IN BRITAIN. Generally, the book is quite easy to read. There are few embedded clauses, and the sentences are simple in structure. The average sentence length is about 15 words. There are some much longer sentences, but most of those are lists or have easy-to-understand clauses such as "because" clauses. The vocabulary is quite simple, with few unknown words that learners will need to look up in the dictionary. But the books do have quite a lot of information and the number of words is fairly large. Thus, these books are recommended for learners who are aiming to progress beyond very short and simple books such as Usborne First Reading or Oxford Reading Tree.
The book consists of twelve chapters: Introduction,Changes in diet and shopping, Farming and fishing, Home-cooked food, Eating out and eating outside, Fast food, Potatoes: a staple food, A sweet tooth, Going for a drink, A nice cup of tea, How to make Shepherd's Pie, How to make Scones.
Chapter 2, Changes in diet and shopping,
Chapter 4, Home-cooked food,
Overall the book was very interesting and useful for me. My knowledge of food and drink in britain was very limited, and the book gave me lots of useful information and made me want to eat britain's food myself. As mentioned above, this book and other books in the Factifiles sub-series may be a useful next step for learners who have read mainly very simple books. (277)

Last Thursday, it was Maedori. Do you know that? It is taking pictures for 20 years old anniversary. My parents gave Japanese traditional clothes, Kimono to me for anniversary. Its color is black and white. I like black. I went to a place with my parents and was had new special hair style and put on make-up. My hair style is called Nihongami. I'm sure you have ever seen the hair style. Actually I hate the hair style, because it looks like old Japanese woman. But my mother likes it. And then I went to many places, for example Kumamoto castle, with two cameraman, two make-up artists, staff, and my parents. And I did many posing. When I was been taking pictures by them, some foreigner said to me "Can I take pictures??". I was glad. It was hard for me, but it was very fun!!! After that, I saw some pictures. There were not me!!! I was surprised at that. The day, I was taken about 700 pictures. (169)

Some people hide their personality. In this story, Zac is the best basketball player, but actually he really likes sing a song. He had been hiding the real himself. His father and friends made fun of him. However he wanted to not only sing at musical club but also play basketball as the captain of basketball team.
